Samuel Tomatz
Samuel Tomatz is an accomplished cinematographer and visual storyteller known for his work in film, television, and digital media. With years of experience and a passion for narrative storytelling, he has contributed to Emmy-winning TV series, feature films, music videos, and commercial productions.
Samuel’s cinematography has earned recognition at festivals around the world. He served as director of photography on Memoir of a Water Urn (2024), directed by Hyonok Kim, which received awards from the Singapore Independent Film Fair, the Berlin Motion Picture Awards, the Swedish Academy of Motion Picture Awards, and others internationally. His personal projects have screened at festivals including the Dumbo Film Festival, San Gennaro Pop, Denver Film Festival (hosted by the Castle Rock Artist Alliance), Winter Park Film Festival, and the Sky Arts Film Festival. Most recently, he shot his debut feature Park Closes at 10 PM, a vibrant coming-of-age comedy, and The Running Woman, a fully virtual satire produced by ABQ Castle Studios. These projects showcase his range from intimate, character-driven storytelling to cutting-edge digital cinematography. Samuel currently serves as the in-house director of photography for Vault Studio.
Samuel’s credits include cinematography for multiple episodes of Artist’s Ignite and SpiderFish. He has also worked as a camera operator on Bands of Enchantment and the upcoming feature film Forsythian Dweller’s Club. His extensive experience further includes first assistant camera roles on the feature films Maddi St. Grace, No Place, Playa Los Muertos, and more, as well as the short film Dwindle and the music video like Wilgira: Eraser X. He has also served as second assistant camera on Year of the Rooster, On the Run, Mr. Wonderful, and numerous other productions.
Beyond film and television, Samuel has collaborated with organizations such as Warrior Storyfield, the National Center for Science Education, Boulder Valley School District, the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department, producing high-quality visual content for educational, advocacy, and commercial initiatives.
With a discerning eye for composition, lighting, and movement, Samuel brings a refined cinematic sensibility to every project. Based in Albuquerque, NM, he continues to craft compelling visual narratives across a diverse range of productions.
